Adopt a Holocaust Survivor - Questions and Answers
How does the program work?
The sponsorship program works on one-to-one matches between
survivor and sponsor, except a few extreme cases of need where we may
give another sponsor. In this way, the sponsor will know this is
“their” personal grandpa or grandma in Ukraine to support, while the
survivor will know there is one specific person or family who knows
their name and story and cares for them.
When C4I establishes the sponsorship program in a new community, we specifically ask for candidates who fit the criteria of the program. Then we work with the point of contact to visit, bring the help etc. So the Jewish communities retain control of their people’s information, while we come in to support them, always working through their leadership.
How Much of my Sponsorship reaches my Adoptee?
There an administrative overhead cost built into the monthly sponsorship cost that equates to 15%. These funds are used to cover transfer fees, currency fluctuations, and the systems used to manage the program.
What if I need to cancel my subscription?
You can remove authority for C4I to take monthly payments by removing your card from the Donor Portal. Under your name, Select My Account, go to manage payment options and delete the card. We would be grateful if you would inform us via email that you wish to discontinue your sponsorship as this will enable us to do an orderly transition of your adoptee to another sponsor.
I have Registered, However there are no names available?
The Holocaust Survivor Program is unlike any other program that C4I Australia manages. All other projects have a donation pool from which support is given. There is no direct connection between a donor and a recipient with these programs.
With the Holocaust Survivor Program, our field works on the ground make contact with local Jewish communities through their Rabbi and establish a relationship with them. Once trust is gained, the community provides names of Holocaust Survivors in their community who are eligible for the program. This process can take weeks to months.
There is therefore a difficult balance to be maintained between available Donors and identified Holocaust Survivors. If you have registered your intention to sponsor and no names are available, it means our field works can make confident promises of support to communities, knowing that there are sponsors on standby. Once a name is available for you, your sponsorship will begin. No deductions will be taken from your CC/DC until your sponsorship actually starts.
Is my Card details safe and secure?
Although you will enter your card details into our Donor portal, they are used to create a payment token specific to C4I and specific to your account. Once the token is created, the Card details are discarded and are NOT stored in our system.
Am I able to communicate with my Adoptee?
You are not able to communicate with your adoptee. For both security and logistical reasons, the team on the ground in the Ukraine can only provide general information on your adoptee in the form of biography available in the Donor Portal.
Am I able to sponsor more than one Holocaust Survivor?
Yes, you can sponsor as many as you would like, however, each Adoptee must be registered separately. Please contact C4I Australia if your would like to sponsor more than five (5).
